Italian - American Cuisine. A Poconos Grillehouse & Bar
The Big A Grillehouse has been around for more than 100 years. In the 1900’s it was a vacation destination for families that lived in the city. In 1940 the owners split the property that the restaurant was on into a separate lot and it was sold to Mr. Tom Wagenhouser who kept it as a restaurant. It then became known as “Toms”. He added a second story to house the waitstaff and cooks. In the 50’s and 60’s Mr. Bill Altier gave the Big A it’s current name. He upgraded the restaurant adding many amenities and called it Altier’s Motel. The Big A soon not only represented the motel and restaurant, but Mr. Altier himself as well. In the early 2000’s Mr. Altier sold the property to Kathleen Doyle and others including Joe and Marianne Albite. In 2003 the Brandlis purchased the business and ran it as an Italian restaurant and steakhouse until February of 2007. Today the Albites now run and own the Big A Grillehouse at it’s new location which is the current location of 5200 Milford Road, East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania 18302.
